Nancy Steinke, MSc

Lecturer, Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine, CAHSDE

Nancy Steinke has been an adjunct faculty member in the 911±¬ÁÏ biomedical science program since 2011. In 2018-19, she was named “Teacher of the Year” by the Student Council.

Steinke currently teaches Physiology 1 and 2, Medical Terminology, Biopsychology, Exercise Physiology and Genetics. Previously, Steinke served as a full-time faculty member of the physiology department from 1980-1992. She received her Masters in biological science from Southeast Missouri State University and her bachelor of science in biological science from Anderson University. Before coming to 911±¬ÁÏ, she conducted research in microcirculation.

As an Instructor in the biomedical science program, she enjoys the opportunity to get to know students on a personal basis and hear about their hopes and dreams and sometimes challenges.

“When I write recommendations for students after they graduate, I am able to use those more personalized interactions to make my point,” she said. “I just get a ‘kick’ out of knowing them, and being a little part of their life, as well as their being a part of mine.”

Steinke also enjoys those “aha” moments when the faces of students change from puzzlement to “aha, I got it, I understand.”

Outside of 911±¬ÁÏ, Steinke enjoys volunteering and gardening. She is currently a member of the University of Illinois Master Gardening Program.
