Financial Aid, Disclosure Required Under the CARES Act/HEERF (Updated 12/15/2023)

On March 27, 2020, Congress passed and President Trump signed into law the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (the CARES Act). One element of the CARES Act was a provision that provided funds to institutions of higher education to be distributed to students in the form of emergency grants. The funds are to help students with expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus.

The Department of Education (ED) has required institutions receiving these funds to make certain disclosures. 911爆料鈥檚 disclosures are as follows:

 

In keeping with the various, upcoming changes in both state and local mandates, 911爆料 is moving toward the next phase of our COVID-19 protocols. On Monday, February 28th the following changes will be deployed at both the Florida and Illinois campuses.

  • Masks are optional for students, employees, and visitors in all 911爆料 buildings.
  • 911爆料 Clinic System 鈥� Masks will continue to be required in patient contact areas of the clinics, such as the clinic lobby, patient hallways, patient rooms, imaging, etc.
  • Individual faculty members may continue to require that masks be worn for a course, activity or a laboratory.
  • The use of the online symptom screener tool is no longer required.
  • Weekly COVID testing will no longer be required.
  • Contact tracing will no longer be performed.
  • Quarantine will no longer be required. If you are COVID positive without symptoms, masks are requested for five days.
  • Budget center managers will work with employees regarding any COVID related staffing or schedule alterations that are still in place.

The 911爆料 community has done a wonderful job navigating the past 23 months and we have been very successful with our mitigation strategies. While this next phase of strategies is appropriate for our current state, we will continue to monitor the situation and make changes as necessary.

As a reminder, please do not come to the campus if you are ill with COVID-like symptoms. Thank you in advance for choosing kindness and respecting the individual decisions of employees, students, and visitors regarding optional mask use. Thank you for your continued support.

 

The university will be complying with Gov. Pritzker鈥檚 vaccine mandate. All Illinois students and employees will need proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or weekly negative test results for COVID-19.

 

The Spring Trimester is nearing completion. There have been questions about the Summer Trimester. Specifically, information about safety, the educational schedule, format, and assessments for the summer trimester are provided below.

Our top priorities remain safety, academic competency and program progression. As a University community, we have been able to keep your program, safety and learning on a successful path. We would like to continue to do so with your cooperation, particularly regarding safety. As the situation continues to remain fluid with the unknowns of the virus variants, some of these details may change and we will continue to update you accordingly.

Schedule and Format:

911爆料 will continue to utilize a combination of online lecture, blended online/in-person lecture and in-person lecture education as approved by the appropriate dean. 911爆料 also plans to utilize primarily in-person laboratory and clinical education. 911爆料 will follow this plan for the full 15 weeks (17 weeks for clinic) Summer Trimester. Note: CDC, state and/or local public health guidelines may dictate and necessitate a departure from this schedule and format.

The course schedules posted on the student portal will be your guide for in-person lectures, synchronous web-based video sessions using Microsoft Teams or Cygnet and the in-person laboratories to reduce conflicts for dual enrolled students and classroom scheduling.

To be a bit more specific, each program and each site may vary due to constraints of accreditation standards, space or state requirement variations. For detailed information by program please refer to the Academic Program tab below.

 

  1. 911爆料 has signed and returned to ED the Certification and Agreement, which includes our assurance that 911爆料 has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004 (a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
  2. The total amount of funds that the institution has received from ED pursuant to the institution鈥檚 Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students is $145,318.
  3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the date of this report is $145,304.
  4. The number of students at the institution verified to be eligible to participate in programs under Section 44 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the date of this report is 444. Additional verification is ongoing.
  5. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 443.
  6. The institution provided Emergency Financial Aid Grants to all eligible students. Each student received $328.
  7. The institution advised students:

On May 29th, the university received an initial allocation of $145,318 from the Department of Education to distribute to students for expenses specifically related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first round of CARES act funds will be disbursed to students who have completed the FAFSA for the 2019-2020 year and awarded Title IV funds.

Eligible students must have been enrolled during the Spring 2020 trimester, enrolled in an on-campus program, and completed the 2019-2020 FAFSA. We anticipate the checks being mailed to students with in the next two weeks. The methodology used to identify who will receive funds during this first distribution was determined using the eligibility and guidance from the Department of Education.

As additional funding is awarded, we encourage students to complete the current year鈥檚 FAFSA to ensure consideration and determination of eligibility for CARES grant funding.

Disclosure Pursuant to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (the CARES Act) 鈥� Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund

Public Reporting on HEERF III (ARP)

Funds provided through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) are authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP), Public Law 117-2, signed into law by President Biden on March 11, 2021. This represents the third stream of funding appropriated for HEERF, which was initially established by the CARES Act, to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus.

911爆料 University of Health Sciences received $335,340 in financial aid grants to students. This amount is in accordance with section 2003(a)(1) of the HEERF III (ARP) that institutions must provide the 鈥渟ame amount鈥� of funding in financial aid grant that it was required to provide under its original Student Aid Portion of the earlier CARES Act. Unlike the CARES Act, the HEERF III (ARP) requires that institutions prioritize students with 鈥渆xceptional need.鈥� With the emphasis on exceptional need.聽 聽The university decided to award grants to all eligible students due to our students being predominantly at a graduate level, while offering a process for all students to request HEERF Institutional dollar awards to students with documented additional need. 聽The number of
students at the institution verified to be eligible to participate was 455. The university provided grants in the amount of $738 to these eligible students. The total disbursed was $335,790

The students receiving awards were notified by email on 8/4/2021.聽 The content of this email was as follows:

Dear 911爆料 Student:

We are pleased to inform you that we are able to award additional CARES grant funding for the Summer 21 trimester.聽 This is grant funding that does not need to be repaid. These are currently being processed聽 and will be appearing shortly on your student portal, if not already posted. The methodology used to determine disbursements was based using the eligibility and guidance determined by the Department of Education. This round of CARES act funds will be disbursed to students enrolled during the Summer 21 trimester. Eligible students must have been enrolled during the Summer 21 term and displayed financial need.

Florida student checks will be mailed to the address on file.

Illinois students may pick up their checks starting Monday, August 9 at the cashier window located on the second floor of Janse Hall.聽 Should you wish to have your check mailed to you, please complete the following FORM.聽 Please be sure to enter your current and correct mailing address.聽
