There has been growing recognition of the potential uses of chiropractic care in both pediatric settings and during pregnancy. Gentle adjustments for little ones aim to ensure proper spinal alignment and enhancing nervous system function. During my preceptorship, I have had the opportunity to observe how beneficial chiropractic care has been for pediatric patients. From addressing common childhood issues like colic and ear infections to promoting overall wellness, chiropractic care for children is gaining recognition for its non-invasive and drug-free approach.

In regard to the theory behind how pediatric adjustments may be associated with decreased frequency of ear infections, the Eustachian tubes connect the middle ear to the back of the throat and play a crucial role in regulating pressure in the middle ear and draining fluids. The tubes are shorter and more horizontal in children than adults, which makes kids more prone to fluid buildup and blockages. Upper cervical spine adjustments may help optimize nervous system function and potentially impact the Eustachian tube and immune response, as well as influence the muscle functions around the Eustachian tubes to aid in better fluid drainage. Chiropractic care can also support immune system function, enhancing the body to defend itself against infections. Last, proper spinal alignment, nervous system regulations and reduction in muscle tension may also mitigate factors that contribute to colic and help improve digestion for pediatric patients.

There are also many positive impacts of chiropractic care during pregnancy. For starters, chiropractic care can alleviate discomfort as the body undergoes significant changes, especially in the lower back and pelvic regions. Chiropractors can also address pelvic misalignments that may occur due to the increased weight and shifting posture during gestation. Maintaining proper pelvic balance can reduce back pain and optimize the positioning of the baby, especially in preparation for labor and delivery. As mentioned previously, adjustments can improve nervous system function which can improve overall health and contribute to a smoother pregnancy experience. The Webster Technique, which is a gentle and non-invasive procedure that is specifically designed for pregnant women, aims to address sacral misalignments, reduce tension in the surrounding ligaments (ie: Round Ligament), and may reduce breech presentations. While it doesn鈥檛 involve direction manipulation of the baby, the technique focuses on the sacrum, aiming to generate an optimal environment for the baby鈥檚 movement and positioning within the uterus. I鈥檝e seen many pregnant women enter the practice with low back pain, pelvic muscle tension, and radiating symptoms. After treatment, they always claim to feel drastically better!

As guardians of growth, chiropractic care gently guides the way for our littlest companions and expectant mothers alike!

Amidst the Fall ambiance (well, as much 鈥淔all鈥 as one can expect in sunny, warm Florida) and the aroma of seasonal Starbucks spices, I find myself in a pensive state, embracing the spirit of Thanksgiving. This season serves as a reminder to express gratitude for the invaluable experiences and individuals that have shaped my journey. In the world of chiropractic education, each milestone is an opportunity for humble reflection. I鈥檝e had the chance to glance back through old pictures throughout the trimesters and I can鈥檛 help but feel utter gratefulness for all my experiences. I鈥檝e had wonderful knowledgeable professors, made fantastic life-long friends, earned an invaluable education and had the opportunity to preceptor at a great clinic.

Left: Alex pauses for a moment during another busy day in her preceptorship. Right: Alex fine tunes her palpation skills on her preceptor, Dr. Micah Richeson!

Beyond textbooks and lectures, this hands-on preceptorship has deepened my appreciation for the interconnectedness of theory and practice in the field of chiropractic care. I am thankful for the patients who entrusted me with their well-being during my time at the 911爆料 clinic and at my preceptorship, allowing me to apply my knowledge in a real-world context. Their cases have been invaluable learning opportunities, fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy that transcends the academic realm. Having the chance to improve taking X-ray images and enhancing my analyzation skills to discuss report of findings with patients and my preceptor has been one of my highlights throughout the preceptorship. Completing this preceptorship at Cypress Creek Chiropractic and Wellness is not just a personal achievement, but a stepping stone in the continuous journey of refining skills, honing clinical judgment and embodying the principles of evidence-based chiropractic care.

As I reflect on this season of gratitude, I extend my thanks to my community, mentors, colleagues and friends who have been integral to my growth as a chiropractor, of being part of a profession dedicated to enhancing the well-being of others.

This past weekend, several 911爆料 students carpooled to Daytona for a part 4 boards review. The Part 4 boards exam was held Saturday, Nov 11,聽and we all tried to absorb as much information as we could to best prepare for this exam. The Irene Gold Part 4 Boards Prep is renowned for its comprehensive approach to board exam preparation, and this weekend lived up to its reputation. From the moment we stepped into the intensive sessions, it was clear that the instructors were dedicated to providing us with the tools and insights necessary to excel in the upcoming exam.

Left Image: (L to R) Left to Right: Me, Chris, Peter, Maria, Alex and Larry. Right Image: Students practicing different orthopedics and adjustments.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the in-depth discussion surrounding the process of completing a history case exam. The instructors guided us through the intricacies of taking a thorough patient history, emphasizing the importance of asking the right questions to elicit comprehensive information. We delved into the nuances of identifying red flags, recognizing patterns and connecting the dots to arrive at a precise diagnosis. Physical exams and orthopedic exams took center stage as we navigated through the weekend. The instructors left no stone unturned, ensuring that we not only understood the techniques but also comprehended the indications for positive exams. We practiced with precision, learning to interpret the subtleties of patient responses and refining our ability to discern clinically relevant information. The emphasis on setting up adjustments added another layer to our learning experience. The instructors provided insightful tips and tricks, drawing from their experiences to guide us. This hands-on experience was invaluable. It was also inspiring to see so many students all honing down on their hands-on skills in one room.

The companionship among 911爆料 students during this intensive weekend was also a testament to the supportive community fostered within our academic environment. The collaborative spirit elevated the learning experience, as we shared insights, clarified doubts and motivated each other to strive for excellence. A group of us stayed in an Airbnb and, in the evenings, played board games, quizzed each other on medical conditions, and watched movies. It was a very mentally tiring weekend for us, but I鈥檓 hoping it鈥檒l have prepared us well for this board exam. As I reflect on the invaluable insights gained, I am very grateful for the opportunity to have participated in this preparatory event.

To all those students who participated in Part IV boards this past weekend, Best Wishes for Great Results!

Interested in pursuing a preceptorship while at 911爆料 in your tenth trimester? Let鈥檚 talk about what my day-to-day looks like in my preceptorship! I step into the bustling clinic at 8 a.m., ready to embark on another day of learning and lots of patient interactions. This is a day in the life of my chiropractic preceptorship, an immersive exploration into the realm of patient care, diagnosis, and therapeutic treatment. My mornings often begin with conducting new patient physical exams. I begin by collecting a comprehensive personal history, which includes obtaining information about their chief complaint(s), symptoms, medical history, prior surgeries, aggravating factors, alleviating factors, medication use, family medical background, and their aspirations for treatment. Each piece of information is a valuable building block in our endeavor to improve their well-being and better understand their condition(s).

When warranted, I proceed to the next phase of the examination – taking X-rays. These images serve as powerful tools that unveil the mysteries beneath the surface, offering a visual narrative of a patient’s condition. Having the ability to take X-rays during my preceptorship has been a very valuable tool to improve my radiographic skills in positioning patients and analyzing the images thereafter. After the X-rays are taken, I discuss the patient鈥檚 case with my preceptor. We meticulously review the images together and my preceptor encourages me to share my insights, to communicate my observations from the X-rays, and to propose treatment options that I believe would benefit the patient. He encourages me to discuss review of findings with patients and prepares me with phrases and terminologies to use to further educate patients in a style that they will understand and become invested in their health and wellness. His mentorship style is founded on collaboration, a two-way exchange of ideas where my contributions are genuinely valued. It’s not merely about adopting textbook methods, but rather about thinking critically and creatively to provide the best care for each individual. This open dialogue empowers me to critically analyze cases and develop well-considered treatment plans. I really appreciate this learning approach.

My preceptor enables me to apply my knowledge by adjusting him and other clinic employees, offering valuable feedback and recommendations to enhance my skills. This hands-on experience further helps my development as a future chiropractor. My preceptor’s commitment to my growth is evident in his openness to explore alternative treatment options. He encourages me to share the treatments I’ve learned in my chiropractic classes, whether it’s addressing conditions like plantar fasciitis, anterior head carriage, lymphadenopathy, or popliteus muscle tightness. This dynamic environment expands my toolkit and enables me to consider a diverse range of approaches to patient care.

From comprehensive patient exams and diagnostic imaging to engaging dialogues with my preceptor and hands-on learning, this preceptorship opportunity is a testament to the transformative power of practical education. A day in the life of my chiropractic preceptorship is a kaleidoscope of experiences!

I recently began my preceptorship! My preceptorship at Cypress Creek Chiropractic and Wellness has been nothing short of an incredible learning experience thus far. As a chiropractic intern, I am fortunate to shadow Dr. Micah Richeson, a highly skilled chiropractor who utilizes evidence-based techniques to provide the best care for his patients. The knowledge and expertise I’ve gained from this opportunity have been invaluable. One of the highlights of this preceptorship has been the chance to enhance my radiology skills. I’ve had the privilege of shooting X-rays and learning how to carefully analyze them. I’ve also had the opportunity to listen in as Dr. Micah explains the report of findings of x-ray imaging, history intake, and physical exam indications to patients in a way that’s both colloquial and educational. His approach encourages patients to invest in their journey toward better health and optimal wellness.

I’ve also conducted numerous new patient physical exams, re-evaluations, history intakes, and soft tissue therapies. Dr. Micah’s office offers a wide range of therapeutic services, including chiropractic spinal and extremity adjustments, traction, decompression, e-muscle stimulation, laser, soft tissue modalities like myofascial release, neuromuscular re-education, and rehab therapies. It’s been quite eye-opening to see how well organized the team is to ensure a smooth flow of patient care in this fast-paced clinic. I also really value the collaborative spirit at this clinic. The team is continuously learning and sharing their knowledge. I also appreciate that they encourage my input as well as a chiropractic intern in shaping treatment plans and discussing potential nutritional recommendations. This dynamic reflects the clinic鈥檚 commitment to offering the best possible care and it鈥檚 an environment where every team member鈥檚 perspective is valued. It鈥檚 not just about delivering evidence-based treatments but also staying at the forefront of chiropractic care.

Leaving my “home clinic at 911爆料” to embark on this preceptorship was a big change. I’ve missed my friends and the familiar surroundings, but this opportunity has been incredibly exciting and rewarding. As I prepare for Part 4 boards with friends on weekends and post-preceptorship hours, I can see how the preceptorship is further preparing me for success. Performing physical exams and orthopedic assessments on real patients has been an invaluable experience, and I am confident that this practical knowledge will serve me well in the upcoming board examination. It鈥檚 also been exciting to teach my friends techniques and modalities that I鈥檝e learned so far in my preceptorship experience, as well as hear about new topics my friends have recently learned in their own preceptorships. We are all trying to absorb as much wisdom as we can in all our experiences.

As a 10th-trimester chiropractic student at 911爆料 in Florida, I recently attended a panel presentation that featured a distinguished panel of professors, each with their own unique expertise. The central focus was on managing a complex patient case involving comorbidities, such as localized low back pain, diabetes, and atrial fibrillation. This patient was prescribed Warfarin and Propranolol, making the case more intricate. The panel presentation provided an educational understanding that I believe is helpful in preparing us for the multifaceted world of healthcare.

One of the key takeaways from this presentation was the significance of radiological imaging in patient assessment. Dr. Martensen, our radiology professor, delved into the crucial role of X-rays and MRI scans in identifying the underlying causes of the patient’s low back pain. Understanding how to interpret these diagnostic images is vital for formulating an accurate and effective treatment plan, particularly when comorbidities are in play.

Dr. Jordan鈥檚 expertise centered on physical examination procedures and laboratory tests. She guided us through a comprehensive examination process, emphasizing the importance of tailoring it to the patient’s unique circumstances, taking their comorbidities into account. We learned how laboratory results, especially for a patient on warfarin, provide essential insights that can significantly influence our clinical decisions.

Then Dr. Freeman discussed the intricacies of recognizing “red flags” and “yellow flags” in patient care. These signals indicate potential complications or warning signs related to comorbidities. Knowing when to make referrals to other health care professionals or specialists is a skill that cannot be underestimated. As Dr. Freeman said, 鈥淚t鈥檚 crucial to know when NOT to adjust.鈥

This presentation was a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world application. Presentations like this offer a holistic view of patient management by integrating radiological imaging, physical examination, lab testing, and referral processes. This practical exposure equips us with the skills and confidence needed to excel in our future roles as health care professionals.

During our two-week break between trimesters, many 911爆料 students including myself attended the Florida Chiropractic Association Convention (FCA) in the vibrant city of Orlando.

One of the highlights of this convention was the chance to connect with fellow students, faculty, and other chiropractors in the area. It was an opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and build connections. In a field as dynamic as chiropractic care, networking is crucial, and this event provided the perfect platform.

The convention floor buzzed with excitement as students and professionals explored booths showcasing holistic products. Engaging with sales representatives, we delved into the world of complementary and alternative medicine. We learned about innovative holistic solutions and how these products can complement chiropractic care, broadening our understanding of holistic health.

Attending lectures was another significant aspect of this adventure. One such lecture focused on recognizing the risk factors and symptoms of certain cancers, a subject of paramount importance in healthcare. Understanding the subtle signs and symptoms that may indicate cancer can be lifesaving. Some general signs and symptoms of cancer include: very heavy night sweats, fatigue, unexplained bleeding, unexplained weight loss, skin changes or sore that won’t heal, a cough that won’t go away, shortness of breath, changes in bowel habits, urination issues, and appetite loss. It was very interesting.

Moreover, attendees learned about tumor markers, invaluable tools in the early detection and monitoring of cancer. Tumor markers, such as Ectopic ACTH tumor-marker can be useful to identify Oat cell lung carcinoma. Other potentially useful tumor markers include AFP and CA-125 for hepatocellular carcinoma. It was a reminder that chiropractors often play a crucial role in patients’ overall well-being, even beyond musculoskeletal care.

Left: (L to R): Dr. Khlar, Alex, Chris, Dr. Mancini, John and Jared. Right: (L to R): Chris, Alex, Dr Kelly and Bryan.

One of the most intriguing sessions was titled “How to Adjust People 2x Your Size.” Led by a 5’1″ chiropractor, the class offered insights into biomechanical adjustment techniques that allow chiropractors of smaller stature to effectively treat taller and broader patients. As a 5’1” tall female myself, I found this class to be very insightful! It showcased the adaptability and resourcefulness required in chiropractic care, reinforcing the idea that passion and skill can overcome physical limitations. It was great to see how the convention served as a melting pot of knowledge and relationships, further reinforcing the importance of collaboration and shared learning in the journey toward becoming chiropractic professionals.

In the midst of our busy clinic where patient care is principal, we also find time to celebrate the personal milestones of our clinic team. Recently, we blissfully threw a surprise baby shower for Karisa, a dedicated Tri-10 intern. Karisa, several months pregnant, radiates positivity, and her upcoming adventure into motherhood is a source of inspiration for us all. We showered her with thoughtful gifts and delectable donut treats to mark this beautiful journey she’s embarking upon.

Left: Lukasz didn鈥檛 tell us it was his birthday, so we had to surprise him with fun apparel. Center: Showering Karisa with baby gifts and yummy treats! Right: Karisa opening her gifts while the rest eagerly await to dive into the donuts!

And that’s not all鈥攚e believe in celebrating birthdays too! Lukasz, another fellow Tri-10 intern, was in for a delightful surprise as we treated him to a special birthday celebration. A few treats and warm wishes brightened up the clinic that day.

As we look ahead, an exciting event awaits us鈥攖he upcoming FCA convention in Orlando. Many of us are planning to carpool to this weekend event, eager to attend educational courses and connect with chiropractors from across the field. It’s an opportunity to expand our knowledge, stay updated on the latest tools, techniques, and innovations, and to network with like-minded professionals. The convention promises to be an invaluable experience, one that allows us to grow both individually and as a team. As students, attending the event is also free!

Amidst our daily patient interactions, we cherish these moments of unity and camaraderie. From celebrating life’s milestones to enhancing our professional skills, we strive to be a close-knit group that not only delivers excellent patient care but also supports and uplifts each other. Whether it’s the joy of new life, the happiness of a birthday surprise, or the anticipation of a convention, these shared experiences enhance our clinic’s culture, making it an energetic and fulfilling place for us all.

The collaboration with Southeastern Guide Dogs brought a delightful surprise to the 911爆料 campus. Noah and Sloopy, two adorable furry companions, instantly won the hearts of everyone they met. Therapy dogs have been known to have a positive impact on emotional well-being, and their presence at the clinic undoubtedly lifted spirits and brought joy to all. Interacting with these gentle canines offered a much-needed break from the stresses of academic life, providing students and staff with an opportunity to unwind, relax, and experience the therapeutic benefits of the human-animal bond. Numerous studies have demonstrated that spending time with therapy dogs can significantly reduce stress, anxiety, and even lower blood pressure, leading to an overall sense of calm and comfort.

In addition to the furry fun, the 911爆料 clinic hosted Christine Foss, an esteemed expert in the field of sports medicine and rehabilitation. Her lecture on Dynamic and Functional Assessment and Recovery Skills for Athlete Hips proved to be highly informative and insightful. Dr. Foss delved into the intricate anatomy of the hip, shedding light on various causes of hip micro-instability, including structural, terrain-related, footwear, and congenital factors. By addressing these underlying issues, athletes can enhance their performance and prevent potential injuries.

During the session, Foss skillfully demonstrated different techniques to isolate and test the muscle strengths of the lower extremities. This comprehensive approach to assessing and recovering athlete hips is crucial for promoting long-term physical health and peak athletic performance. Students and faculty gained valuable knowledge and practical skills, equipping them to better serve athletes and individuals with hip-related concerns.

The 911爆料 clinic’s active few weeks reinforced the school鈥檚 commitment to holistic wellness and comprehensive learning. The therapy dog visit served as a great reminder of the significance of mental and emotional well-being, while Christine Foss’s lecture showcased the importance of staying up-to-date with cutting-edge advancements in the field of sports medicine. It was definitely an active few weeks for us!

Myth-Busters Edition: Busting the Myths on Chiropractic Care /myth-busters-edition-busting-the-myths-on-chiropractic-care/ Fri, 14 Jul 2023 13:30:13 +0000 /?p=232569 It's time to set the record straight and debunk some of the most common myths surrounding chiropractic treatment.

The post Myth-Busters Edition: Busting the Myths on Chiropractic Care appeared first on 911爆料.

]]>
Greetings, spine enthusiasts! As a Tri-9 chiropractic student here at 911爆料, I can’t help but notice the abundance of misconceptions floating around about our profession. It’s time to set the record straight and debunk some of the most common myths surrounding chiropractic treatment. So, grab your adjustment tables and let’s dive in!

Myth #1: “Cracking” Sounds Mean Something Is Breaking:

The notorious “cracking” sound…Contrary to popular belief, that satisfying noise is not bones breaking or popping out of place. It’s simply the release of gas bubbles within the joint, like the sound when you crack your knuckles.

Myth #2: Chiropractic Care Is Unsafe:

Safety concerns are valid, but chiropractic care is considered one of the safest forms of health care. We undergo extensive training. Chiropractic schooling encompasses courses that align with medical school courses to provide a comprehensive understanding of the human body and health care. Core subjects such as anatomy, physiology, and pathology are taught in both chiropractic and medical programs to ensure a strong foundation in medical sciences. Additionally, we, chiropractic students, also study radiology, neurology, and clinical diagnosis, which are fundamental to diagnosing and treating patients. Chiropractors tailor treatments to suit each patient’s needs, ensuring maximum safety and effectiveness.

Myth #3: Chiropractic Care Is Ineffective:

Countless studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of chiropractic care for various conditions. From back pain and headaches to sciatica and sports injuries, chiropractic treatment offers drug-free, non-invasive solutions. A research article published in 2013 discussed the effectiveness of adding chiropractic manipulative therapy (CMT) to standard medical care for patients with acute low back pain and their results demonstrated a significant decrease in patients鈥 disability scores and mean back pain functional scale scores that were significantly improved. Collaborating with other medical professions can accelerate and enhance treatment. Don’t underestimate the power of those adjustments!

Reference: Goertz CM, Long CR, Hondras MA, et al. (2013). Adding chiropractic manipulative therapy to standard medical care for patients with acute low back pain: results of a pragmatic randomized comparative effectiveness study. Spine, 38(8), 627-634.

Myth #4: Chiropractors Only Focus on the Spine:

Holistic care is the name of the game in chiropractic! While the spine plays a crucial role, we (chiropractors) consider the overall health of patients. We recognize the interconnectedness of the body and address factors like nutrition, gait, posture, exercise, mental health, and lifestyle habits to promote overall well-being. There are so many diverse niches in the field of chiropractic. Chiropractors can specialize in sports medicine, pediatric, functional medicine, geriatric, neurology, orthopedic, rehabilitation, radiology, ergonomic, etc, and even veterinary chiropractic!

Just like chiropractic care benefits humans, chiropractic care for animals can promote musculoskeletal health, relieve pain, improve mobility, and enhance overall well-being in our furry friends! For any future chiropractors reading this blog, the world is your oyster and there are so many great options for you to dive into in the field of chiropractic!

Myth #5: Chiropractic Care Is Only for Physical Health:

Chiropractic treatment has far-reaching effects beyond physical health. By improving spinal health and nerve function, it can positively impact mental health and immune function. A properly aligned spine facilitates better communication between the brain and the body, leading to improved mental clarity and a strengthened immune system.

There you have it, folks–myths busted! Chiropractic care is not only safe and effective, but it offers a holistic approach to health that goes beyond just the spine. It’s time to let go of those misconceptions and embrace the wonders of chiropractic treatment. Keep those spines aligned and your minds open to the incredible benefits of chiropractic care!
